CJW_KOREA Posted April 27, 2022 Share Posted April 27, 2022 just a bit of an issue I noticed with the latest edition of Monterey, MacOS 12.3.1. I had Ethernet working as well as wifi. Now when I try and switch the network from one to the other, the system hangs and restarts. Upon re-entry into MacOS, an error report shows  Panic cpu 6 caller error. I managed to boot back in but noticed that my Intel i255-v ethernet now no longer functions. Gives a self-assigned IPv4 - No connection.  Anyone here encountering this?  panic(cpu 6 caller 0xffffff80017d38f3): Kernel trap at 0xffffff80017b1ae8, type 13=general protection, registers: CR0: 0x000000008001003b, CR2: 0x000070000302ea08, CR3: 0x0000000797da30b0, CR4: 0x00000000003626e0 RAX: 0x000000000085ca1d, RBX: 0x0000000010b94300, RCX: 0x0000000000000000, RDX: 0xff01000c001bc001 RSP: 0xffffffe0b598bba0, RBP: 0xffffffe0b598bc50, RSI: 0xffffff8b70e10060, RDI: 0x0000000000000000 R8: 0xffffff8b727d3480, R9: 0xfffffeab403121a0, R10: 0x00007ff854e34000, R11: 0xffffff8b6ec82f80 R12: 0x00000000000d61b4, R13: 0x0000000000000100, R14: 0xfffffeab40313000, R15: 0x0000000000000000 RFL: 0x0000000000010246, RIP: 0xffffff80017b1ae8, CS: 0x0000000000000008, SS: 0x0000000000000010 Fault CR2: 0x000070000302ea08, Error code: 0x0000000000000000, Fault CPU: 0x6, PL: 2, VF: 0 Panicked task 0xffffff99d3fdc700: 1 threads: pid 701: System Preferenc Backtrace (CPU 6), panicked thread: 0xffffff8b701f2aa8, Frame : Return Address 0xffffff800150f170 : 0xffffff8001683e2d 0xffffff800150f1c0 : 0xffffff80017e3cb6 0xffffff800150f200 : 0xffffff80017d350d 0xffffff800150f250 : 0xffffff8001623a60 0xffffff800150f270 : 0xffffff80016841fd 0xffffff800150f390 : 0xffffff80016839b6 0xffffff800150f3f0 : 0xffffff8001f164bf 0xffffff800150f4e0 : 0xffffff80017d38f3 0xffffff800150f660 : 0xffffff80017d35e2 0xffffff800150f6b0 : 0xffffff8001623a60 0xffffff800150f6d0 : 0xffffff80017b1ae8 0xffffffe0b598bc50 : 0xffffff80017b2436 0xffffffe0b598bcb0 : 0xffffff800173bb2b 0xffffffe0b598bd00 : 0xffffff800173a599 0xffffffe0b598be50 : 0xffffff8001739e93 0xffffffe0b598be80 : 0xffffff80016bef9d 0xffffffe0b598bec0 : 0xffffff8001c48ee4 0xffffffe0b598bf30 : 0xffffff8001c48cd7 0xffffffe0b598bf40 : 0xffffff8001d8ad2b 0xffffffe0b598bfa0 : 0xffffff8001624226 Process name corresponding to current thread (0xffffff8b701f2aa8): System Preferences Boot args: -v alcid=12 watchdog=0 agdpmod=pikera dk.e1000=0 -revsbvmm chunklist-security-epoch=0 -chunklist-no-rev2-dev chunklist-security-epoch=0 -chunklist-no-rev2-dev Mac OS version: 21E258 Kernel version: Darwin Kernel Version 21.4.0: Fri Mar 18 00:45:05 PDT 2022; root:xnu-8020.101.4~15/RELEASE_X86_64 Kernel UUID: B6F8637B-0844-355F-8C82-60FA06149384 KernelCache slide: 0x0000000001400000 KernelCache base: 0xffffff8001600000 Kernel slide: 0x0000000001410000 Kernel text base: 0xffffff8001610000 __HIB text base: 0xffffff8001500000 System model name: iMacPro1,1 (Mac-7BA5B2D9E42DDD94) System shutdown begun: NO Panic diags file available: YES (0x0) Hibernation exit count: 0 System uptime in nanoseconds: 705988057012 Last Sleep: absolute base_tsc base_nano Uptime : 0x000000a4602ad967 Sleep : 0x0000000000000000 0x0000000000000000 0x0000000000000000 Wake : 0x0000000000000000 0x000006c799576e31 0x0000000000000000 Compressor Info: 0% of compressed pages limit (OK) and 0% of segments limit (OK) with 0 swapfiles and OK swap space Zone info: Foreign : 0xffffff8009eed000 - 0xffffff8009efb000 Native : 0xffffff803b7ac000 - 0xffffffa03b7ac000 Readonly: 0xffffff8508478000 - 0xffffff86a1e11000 Metadata: 0xffffffe590f6f000 - 0xffffffe5b1288000 Bitmaps : 0xffffffe5b1288000 - 0xffffffe5bd288000  Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

CJW_KOREA Posted April 28, 2022 Author Share Posted April 28, 2022 (edited)  I have dk.e1000=0 and e1000=0 already in my boot arguments now.   Added both - no kernel panicking this time but the Intel i255-v Ethernet is dead now. No IPv4 address. Just the incorrect IPv6. I have been suggested to turn on VT-d ... I am not so sure this a good idea as in the past it has causes KPs and other instability. There is something else going on here.   An external Satechi USB-C dock with Ethernet works without any issue at all - right up to 1Gb/s which is fine.    Edited April 28, 2022 by Conor Whyte Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
CJW_KOREA Posted April 28, 2022 Author Share Posted April 28, 2022 Actually, got another issue with ethernet causing a KP. Surprisingly a USB-C Satechi dock with a 1GB Ethernet port works just fine. Internal ones cause a KP now 20 minutes into trying to establish a connection . The Network address shows an IPv6 address and then system restarts randomly. panic(cpu 14 caller 0xffffff8018b0b02b): Bad tailq elm 0xffffff86bb2291a0 next->prev != elm @2533 @vfs_cache.c:2533 Panicked task 0xffffff951f7ae670: 243 threads: pid 0: kernel_task Backtrace (CPU 14), panicked thread: 0xffffff99ec33d550, Frame : Return Address 0xffffffd06896ba40 : 0xffffff8018883e2d 0xffffffd06896ba90 : 0xffffff80189e3cb6 0xffffffd06896bad0 : 0xffffff80189d350d 0xffffffd06896bb20 : 0xffffff8018823a60 0xffffffd06896bb40 : 0xffffff80188841fd 0xffffffd06896bc60 : 0xffffff80188839b6 0xffffffd06896bcc0 : 0xffffff80191164bf 0xffffffd06896bdb0 : 0xffffff8018b0b02b 0xffffffd06896bde0 : 0xffffff8018b0a6ea 0xffffffd06896be40 : 0xffffff8018b2225a 0xffffffd06896bed0 : 0xffffff8018b21727 0xffffffd06896bf20 : 0xffffff8018b22cd1 0xffffffd06896bf60 : 0xffffff8018b22bad 0xffffffd06896bfa0 : 0xffffff801882318e Process name corresponding to current thread (0xffffff99ec33d550): kernel_task Boot args: -v alcid=12 watchdog=0 agdpmod=pikera dk.e1000=0 -revsbvmm chunklist-security-epoch=0 -chunklist-no-rev2-dev Mac OS version: 21E258 Kernel version: Darwin Kernel Version 21.4.0: Fri Mar 18 00:45:05 PDT 2022; root:xnu-8020.101.4~15/RELEASE_X86_64 Kernel UUID: B6F8637B-0844-355F-8C82-60FA06149384 KernelCache slide: 0x0000000018600000 KernelCache base: 0xffffff8018800000 Kernel slide: 0x0000000018610000 Kernel text base: 0xffffff8018810000 __HIB text base: 0xffffff8018700000 System model name: iMacPro1,1 (Mac-7BA5B2D9E42DDD94) System shutdown begun: NO Panic diags file available: YES (0x0) Hibernation exit count: 0 System uptime in nanoseconds: 827072881935 Last Sleep: absolute base_tsc base_nano Uptime : 0x000000c09162a6c9 Sleep : 0x0000000000000000 0x0000000000000000 0x0000000000000000 Wake : 0x0000000000000000 0x00000020e75eb77d 0x0000000000000000 Compressor Info: 0% of compressed pages limit (OK) and 0% of segments limit (OK) with 0 swapfiles and OK swap space Zone info: Foreign : 0xffffff80210ec000 - 0xffffff80210fa000 Native : 0xffffff80529fd000 - 0xffffffa0529fd000 Readonly: 0xffffff851f6c9000 - 0xffffff86b9062000 Metadata: 0xffffffe075787000 - 0xffffffe095aa1000 Bitmaps : 0xffffffe095aa1000 - 0xffffffe0a1aa1000  Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
