Dell M6800 - Open Core efi - Monterey (and BigSur)

Recommended Posts

I wanted to share this efi folder to help other users and to show my thanks to this site that has made this possible.

Running:

macOS Monterey Version 12.5.1

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4910MQ CPU @ 2.90GHz

NVIDIA Quadro K3100M

RAM 32.00 GB

You will need to generate and enter your SMBIOS serial/ID numbers

Everything works fine like: Speakers, Headphones, USB3, WiFi, Bluetooth, Video etc

Install Notes:

First I installed BigSur 16.8.60 using the OLA EFI folder for series 8 chip-set and though the graphics were crazy messed up I could see it was installing and after it was on the BigSur screen with the orange and purple background colors I found the m4800 efi folder online and used it to boot into a fully working system. From there I ran the Monterey installer directly from the applications folder for a normal upgrade process to version 12.5.1 - good luck!

Video Notes:

BigSur 16.8.60 iGPU and eGPU both work out of the box for me

EDIT NOTE: I had to switch the kext I was using for Bluetooth to boot in Monterey - if you have the same wifi card I used this will need to be done (see the linked picture for Bluetooth)

Moterey 12.5.1 you need to go get "Geforce Kepler patcher-V5.dmg" and patch the video to get the eGPU working

Hardware:

Monterey Bluetooth:

BigSur Bluetooth:

These are very nice old laptops you can find at affordable prices - I hope this helps, and if you have any way to contribute to this build feel free to post any additions!

Cheers

Hi could you please tell me how you are able to run this. I tried your EFi folder having added own SMBIOS and others, but the system reboot without proceeding after selecting the USB installer. My specs are as follows:

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4940MX CPU @ 3.10GHz

NVIDIA Quadro K5100M.

Thanks and looking forward to your reply.

Hi dear friend .

After several months, no matter how hard I tried, unfortunately, my graphics card was not recognized.

The k5100m does not seem to be recognized.

The next problem is that the Mac OS is not optimized for the m6800.

But a feeling tells me it's not worth the time.

Thanks for sharing the file

I hope one day a professional user can solve the problem by providing a file.

Thank you again dear friend for your help.
