X99 6950x Asus Deluxe ii (bios unlocked +nvram whitelist unlocked) Vega 64 LC. Needs help with DSDT. Vega 64 freeze on video call or screen savers

Recommended Posts

Hi there.

I hope you guys can help me. I've running a hack for a while on Mojave with clover, everything works including thunderbolt hot swap...

I want to transition to BigSur and I have just installed Big Sur 11.2.3 on a separate drive to test it out with Opencore 0.7.4... It was a little tough to install because I was getting the reboot loop, up until I flashed my Asus Deluxe ii bios to the latest bios with msr02 unlocked as well as nvram whitelist unlock... then I could install no problem.

Specs:

  • Asus X99 Deluxe ii
  • Intel 6950x CPU
  • Alpine Ridge GB Thunderbot card
  • Saphire RX Vega 64 Liquid
  • 3 x Displays (2 DP and 1 DP to HDMI converter)
  • 64 GB DDR4 RAM
  • 1 x 950 Pro SSD (Windows)
  • 1 x 970 SSD ( Mojave main drive )
  • 1 x 850 SSD (Big Sur)
  • 5 X 860 SSDs (Music libraries)
  • 1 x 4TB WD HDD (Storage)

Everything seems to work but my Vega 64 freeze the computer after a while, mostly on video call (zoom) and about 10min after my screensavers are kicking in...

I had this problem in the the past in Mojave and I fixed those by doing the following on my Mojave/Clover install:

  • 3 screens connected, and 2 with DP and one with HDMI. That created freeze issues. Had to buy an HDMI to DP converter to make all connections to the video card DP.
  • disabling XMP from Bios... This was triggering some freezes
  • getting everything to implemented (PCI), using KGP custom made SSDTs and one for the Vega with special buffers and custom power management table
  • removing the AppleGFXHDA.kext from S/L/E

So the problem is back in BigSur that my assumption is that this would be because of either

the AppleGFXHDA.kext from S/L/E is not removed

Nothing is really being implemented (PCI)  (see system info screenshot here) system info.zip

Note about the AppleGFXHDA removal: managed to get it removed and boot from a snapshot that did not have it, but the kext was still loaded even though it was not in the extension folder anymore... I suspect it is because it is still loaded in the cache, but if I clear the cache following this guide: https://www.non-vanilla-wayx86.com/threads/solved-how-to-disable-applegfxhda.311512/ it recks my install and constantly boot in recovery and forces me to re-install BigSur )

I've attempted to make my custom USB map but a lot of the USB3 and 3.1 ports would not show any device connected to them in Hackintool when trying to map them all out.. even though the device would actually connect and mount... so I'm not sure how good my map is and maybe this is due to the USB 3.1 controller not being seen properly.... Anyway I could download the 11.6 update, it would go through the whole install to them just tell me right at the end that the update could not be applied and reverted back to 11.2.3

I've included the SendMe here in the hope that I could get my DSDT patched properly as I'm a little out of my depth with OpenCore (to big to upload here): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1XSxdz9f1ygxcDF5RHKHrkLsua_byyOC_/view?usp=sharing

I've also included the EFI from my Clover Mojave system where everything works 100%. rock solid (also too big).

Thanks so much in advance for all the help!!

Absolute legend man. Thank you so much!  I'll test it out now :)

Everything is looking great here. Pic attached.

Is it normal that my RX Vega is not showing up in the PCI section anymore? I also use to see a my UA Audio PCI card there as well as my UA Apollo thunderbolt.. Its all working though..!

Also do you know how I can change the 3Ghz Unknown processor in the Overview Tab in System information to my actual processor name?

Thank you so much mate!

Unfortunately my Screen just froze again after 5min  on screen savers…

is there a way of disabling a kext from loading in opencore so I can to block AppleGFXHDA.kext …?

I would like to report that everything now works perfectly and yes I needed to use this kext to disable the HDA audio drivers in order for the RX Vega 64 not to crash on Screen savers. It is all super stable now!! You are a legend man

One thing which is not working is updating to 11.6. I can download the update and go through the whole install progress, the installer takes 30min... log back into the OS right at the end with a notification stating "some updates failed to install" and I'm stuck at 11.2.3.

My motherboard as patch registry and nvram whitelist... and I've got the USB ports mapped through a kext and USBport limit set to false in the config file so I'm not too sure how I could go about updating

@MaLd0n managed to update to 11.6.1 by redoing my USB part mapping following your guide here:

Everything seem to be working fine... but I have had a few instances where I get a complete computer freeze by plugging and unplugging some USB devices.

It happened once by me unplugging my keyboard from my USB 3 hub. This morning it happened again.. I unpluged a USB hard drive that was plugged directly to a USB 3 port of the motherboard before powering up and noticed my thunderbolt audio interface was acting out...where the interface would connect but I would get an internal message stating that the interface was unresponsive and could not connect to the DSP (Apollo Twin X)... It kept on doing it after reboot.. and would freeze the whole system after connecting to the Apollo...  I have had to unplug every USB devices and only left my mouse and keyboard pluged directly into USB ports on my motherboard and not the hub... reboot and everything back to normal..

Not too sure what is going on as it seems my USB mapping is good.

There is however a USB 3.1 controller that you have mapped in the DSDT that does not seem to show up in the Hackintool USB mapping tab.. There are 3 x USB 3.1 and 1 USB c port on the motherboard that are not included in my USB map that still works when plugging a device in... in the IOreg it comes under D083 and D084... I'm not too sure if this has anything to do with it

I've attached a screenshot here:

screeshots.zip

and my EFI here: https://www.transfernow.net/dl/20211104oOZDJQTi

Appreciate any advice you could give about this issue.

When I plug a USB 3 thumb drive on any of the 3 x 3.1 USB port I have on the motherboard the drive mounts and is shows up in the IOReg under D083 and D084. However Hackintool USB tab doesn't see it at all even though the drive is mounted and that Hackintool actually recognises both the USB 3.1 controller on D083 and D084.

USB inject all in Hackintool gave me 6 x SS ports originally when doing my USB map, but only 3 of them would show connected devices when a device was connected. The USB 3.1 ports even though would mount any drive on OSX would not be recognised on any of the discovered ports in Hackintool... So I'm not sure if there is a conflict somewhere here

Oh ok, so no need to worry about the 3.1 ports then! So i'm not too sure then what is causing the issue then, clearly seems related to my USB ports... but since the mapping look goods I'm not too sure whats going on..

A possible culprit: I am using some 2 x .aml config files in the ACPI folder that used to work well in my Mojave Hack. One to get hot swap working on the Alpine Ridge TB card and also a Vega64.aml which setup the power table and PCI implementation of my GPU... Maybe the TB3HP.aml file is conflicting with the DSDT you've made for me or something else...? Since my thunderbolt audio interface was glitching was the fault happened it seems like a plausible cause / effect situation
